A New Orleans foodie and a product of hurricane Katrina, I've landed on both feet and have started a new life in the Tampa Bay area. A natural disaster changed my state of residence and you can take me out of New Orleans, but you can't take the New Orleans out of me.

This is my resource for all things New Orleans: food recipes, culture and history.  In addition, you can find my original recipes and a log of my cooking adventures.  My writing here is unedited and uncut... I don't outline or plan what I type on the page.... consider it a diary of dining and cooking.

If you are a Louisiana native who's landed in the Tampa Bay area, you may be feeling a bit homesick.  Check out my NOLA in Tampa page to guide you to the places and foods that will help you feel more at home.

Finally... I am home.
This past weekend I moved in with a friend of mine to an apartment in the trendy and yuppie-filled Hyde Park area of South Tampa.  I now have a huge room overlooking the scenic swimming pool and I am within walking distance to plenty of bars, restaurants and stores; similar to Uptown New Orleans but without the character.  No, I am not back in New Orleans, but Monday night I came back to my new apartment and realized, I am home.

It didn't hit me until Sunday evening that the last time I slept in my own bed was Saturday night, August 28, three full months ago.  I had been living in the spare bedroom at a friend's condo, and I know it was time for me to give him his space back.  I pulled a few things out of my storage unit and hauled them over to the new place on Saturday and Sunday finally moved in for good Sunday evening.  All I can say is, "damn it's good to be home."

While at the previous place, I did a ton of cooking, much of it because of the lack of suitable dining options.  I have typed up many new recipes and will have them up on the site shortly.  I had lost a interest and motivation in updating this site, until a friend called and let me know that she got on here and pulled off a recipe for mashed potatoes.  So I will keep it going.

My new room-mate makes some good stuff, generally it includes a phone call to pre-order his takeout.  So I figure I'll start cooking some more and then it'll be a win-win for both of us.  I did cook last night at a friend's house, and I'll probably feel compelled to share the idea, as I cooked a complete meal in aluminum foil, and it was outstanding - baked salmon (would've grilled it, but there was no propane), rosemary roasted potatoes and mixed veggies (squash, zucchini, red onion and garlic).  Keep an eye out in the next couple of days.
